Going away for college “Miami kids” face a pluralism that is hard to reach in the self-sufficient enclaves found within South Florida. University and career choices can carry young Cuban-Americans away from Miami and everything the city means to them in terms of family, language and culture. When second-generation Cuban-Americans travel far beyond Miami they are uniformly struck by just how Cuban they feel.
